“Outsiders” newsflash (1/29/2014): On the US State of the Union

Election Watch

The President of the United States (#POTUS) is speaking at his 5th State of the Union (#SOTU) address. He’s noting the achievements and the promise of health reform. The most important reform, to me, has been the outlawing of pre-existing health conditions. I was laughing as he reminded the Republicans in the Congress about basically this notion: Let’s move on–people are benefiting in wonderful ways. He’s citing the Governor of Kentucky as an example of how healthcare is working–the same state that Rand Paul comes from.

He’s also been talking about the state of affairs in the Middle East, Syria and Afghanistan. He’s also noting the achievement of the United States in negotiations with Iran. He is on the record noting that any sanctions bill will be vetoed. He’s acknowledging the challenges ahead as he underscores how negotiations is the right strategy to pursue. As he ended the speech, he reminded the World about the art of the possible that America represented as epitomized by the wounded Army Ranger who got wounded on his 10th Deployment. It was such a heart warming scene to see all present (the Congress, the Supreme Court, the Joint Chiefs, the Cabinet) have a sustained standing ovation for this brave soul
